The Physical Education (PE) Department’s aim for all pupils is that they achieve their physical potential whilst at St Edward’s and develop their confidence to contribute to the health and well-being of not only themselves, but also others. In line with the National Curriculum, the PE Department offers a wide range of activities, both in lesson and through extra-curricular activities.
We have a wide range of facilities such as a gym and hall, yard with four netball courts and seven tennis courts, fields with two full size junior football pitches, two mini football pitches with extra training grids and a new multi-gym facility. In summer, we also have a six-lane athletics track, hurdles lanes, two long jump pits, a shot putt area and a Redgra six-lane 100m track.
St. Edward’s Church of England Academy is a “Sportsmark” school, meaning that we have been recognised by Sport England as an outstanding school for PE and the opportunities we give to our pupils in lessons and extra-curricular activities.
Outside coaches are used, when available, to support the school staff. Additionally, we have numerous links with outside agencies including cricket, rugby, tennis, hockey, athletics, cross country, golf, table tennis and rowing clubs. Our school is also involved in a range of local leagues, regional/national festivals and competitions.
