Here at St Edward’s we pride ourselves on the quality of pastoral care that we offer our pupils.

This care starts before pupils join us in Year 5, members of the pastoral team make contact with the feeder schools so that transition from one school to another is as smooth as possible. Year 4 pupils take part in a transition week in the Summer Term, before they start in September; during the week they are able to experience what life at St Edward’s will be like. This is also an opportunity to meet their House tutor, other pupils in their tutor group and year group.  There are additional visits for the Year 4 pupils who are transferring from schools outside our catchment area, or who may require additional visits to aid their transition. Our Year 8 pupils are also involved in the transition week, spending the time at Westwood College or Leek High School getting to know their form tutors and other members of their tutor group as well as experiencing lessons.

All staff play a very active role in looking after children, their safety and well-being is something we take very seriously. House tutors and the House Leaders are some of the key people in dealing with any issues that may arise during the time pupils spend with us. The Academy has developed a Learning Support Centre (LSC) where our Learning Mentors and Withdrawal Room Assistant offer pupils extra support with Behavioural, Social and Emotional needs as well as offering extra academic support on a one-to-one or small group basis. The Additional Needs (AN) Department are part of the LSC and support pupils by using Learning Programmes, Reading Groups, Nurture Groups and other interventions to help and support our pupils.
