Academy News 9th October 2017
Dear all, the week has had the joy of the Harvest moon, by definition the full moon that is seen nearest to the time of the autumn equinox.
Its light has lit the path of many people over the ages but reminded me the bible verse: “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it” John 1:5.
The moon shone so brightly this week it lighting up the night. In our world currently light is required to fight the darkness as we have heard about of atrocities from around the world, especially those in Las Vegas. This has challenged our community to let our light shine and be a beacon of Good News to our community in Leek. The pupils in the Academy have demonstrated this for example collecting more house points for good works and being Christ like in their charitable giving (well cake eating) raising a wonderful £641.12 for the Douglas Macmillan Charity.
As an Academy we have received a certificate for our STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Maths) Ambassadors – thank you to the Science Department and Leader of Learning, Mr Jones, for all the hard work here putting such an important area of our community and employment sector high on the agenda in the Academy.
With regard to personnel and finance, these are often areas of the Academy that do not get a mention; however, without a fantastic team of people and secure financial management, the provision we aim to supply would not take place. Last week we had a full audit of our financial systems, this is a regular process to ensure that we are compliant and make the best use of the funds we are allocated for education. I am very grateful to the whole finance team led by Mrs Casey who have successfully ensured we received a successful audit.
This week we have been lucky enough to appoint Mrs Rebecca Ball as House Leader and Mrs Amber Butt as Inclusion Officer. These are crucial roles in the Academy’s pastoral system and I am sure they will be superb members of our team.
On other matters if any parents have any empty plastic bottles or ceramic items that they want to get rid of, please would you drop them off, in a clean condition, to the front office; these will be used in an installation art pieces which we will soon be revealing for everyone to enjoy.
House Point totals to Friday 6th October 2017.
So as I end each blog with a quote I thought this week the following quote from JK Rowling was suitable:
“We’ve all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That’s who we really are!”
