Academy News 5th December

Sacred space has been in school this week looking at the meaning of Christmas in a reflective and creative way with pupil creating their own Christmas decoration and also their own wreath for their classrooms with their hope and ideas on. The Road Safety officer has also been in talking with Year 5 on road safety and especially dangerous behaviour while out near our roads.

On Tuesday evening, we had Year 8 Parents’ evening and it was well attended. Thank you to those who came and also to the pupils who helped with the support of the administration for Mrs Haydon.

On Thursday, we welcomed some Chinese teacher form one of the schools where Mrs Gallimore recently visited while on the government sponsored initiative to link maths teaching with Chinese schools. Mrs Gallimore will shortly be visiting the Houses of Parliament to feedback as part of this initiative. This is a link with the Britannia Alliance teaching partnership in Stoke on Trent for whom Mrs Gallimore completes commissioned work.

Next week we are looking forward to Christmas dinner on Friday and Christmas Jumper day. There is no cost for this but we would ask for items for the Foodbank as part of the Joint Youth project with Leek High, Westwood and Churnet View, this arose from the conference held earlier in the year at Leek High.

Sport this week has included the results for the District Cross country where Jasmine Molden is the Yr7 Staffs Moorlands Champion winning all 5 of her races. The Yr 7 A team came second in the league , the year 8 girls came 3rd. The year 7 boys were the winners with the Year 8 boys coming 3rd. Well done to the many who took part in the cross country this year.

Additional results announced in assembly were the District Sportshall Athletics. The Primary team came 4th and the Secondary Year 7 and 8 teams won all of their competitions. Once again, congratulations to all the staff and pupils for their efforts in this varied ain itnerstin form of athletics that includes suc a wide variety of activities including ‘medicine ball chest push! ’

Last week the new interim Principal was appointed, an announcement will be made shortly.
