Academy News 23rd April 2018

Dear All,

The Easter holidays already seem a long way away and the stocks of chocolate eggs are now severely depleted in everyone’s cupboards. However, we are still celebrating Easter as a Church, a community and a school. The true gift provided for us at this time is that of eternal life and is the focus of our collective worship for the next few weeks.

Since our return, our community has been putting the energy generated from all those gratefully received Easter eggs to good use.

Our Year 7 Hockey team came 5th in the Midland Championship – which is no mean feat as every other school in the competition at this level is an Independent school with pupils, in many cases, receiving scholarships for their sporting prowess. Well done to all the boys involved; this is a great achievement and we are all very proud of you.

Before Easter, a group of our Year 8 pupils ventured to Keele University to take part in a North West Maths Challenge competition that was coordinated by Liverpool University, which involved over 2200 pupils. I am happy to say that one of our keen and talented mathematicians, Izzy Rose, came in 2nd in this field and has been invited to an awards ceremony at Liverpool University Mathematics Faculty. This is a real privilege and demonstrates Izzy’s natural flair for the subject, the hard work of her teachers and I’m sure some level of parental genetic ability. Well done, Izzy.

In the coming weeks I will be sending out correspondence with regard to the next ‘Stakeholder Communications Work Party.’ The last meeting was on a very snowy evening where only a handful of parents were able to attend, although their contribution was superb and very informative. The next meeting will outline what has been achieved to date and focus on several key elements:

  • Reports of pupil progress to parents
  • Understanding school data for parents and how to make it more manageable.

I will send information regarding the date and time of this meeting out as soon as possible, and would encourage you to attend as we value your input.

House Point totals for week ending 20th April 2018.

As always, I will finish with a quotation. This time it is from Antoine De Saint Exupery.

“A goal without a plan is just a wish.”

God Bless,

Mr Hutchinson
