Academy News 20th November 2017
Over 100 Operation Christmas Child gift boxes have been donated, checked and wrapped, and are sitting ready for collection in our school reception. This gesture exemplifies the ethos of RESPECT at St Edward’s and demonstrates the deep seated empathy that pupils feel for those less fortunate than themselves.
I must take this opportunity to thank all those parents and pupils who have contributed, and also thank Mrs Dawson and Mrs Cooper along with a large group of ‘able wrappers’ who have prepared the boxes ready for children around the world to receive. I would ask that everyone remembers these boxes as we prepare and eventually celebrate Christmas as the giving of these gifts will truly make someone’s life that little more bearable and give them reason to celebrate. The fact that we do this not knowing where they may end up is all the more powerful. Well done, again, to everyone involved.
Within the Academy this week, the Senior Prefects have begun the process of forming their own Parliament and will be undertaking a voting process to create the team of members.
This demonstrates the clear understanding not only of democracy, but how decisions are made within our country and other democracies around the world. It will provide the younger pupils with an insight into this process and is another example that they can aspire to be part of in the future.
House points continue to increase with Newton moving ahead this week. Nightingale and Elgar houses are in hot pursuit and I am sure that they will catch up and potentially overtake each other in the weeks running up to Christmas.
House Point totals to Friday 17th November 2017.
As always, I end this blog with a quotation from a Saint of much repute, Saint Francis of Assisi. I feel that all of us could gain much from living by this directive:
“Start by doing what’s necessary: then do what’s possible: and suddenly you are doing the impossible.”
