Academy News 11th June 2018

Dear All,

Half term already seems a long time ago and the first week of the final half term has passed in the blink of an eye.

This week, Year 7 have had the opportunity to take part in their Geography Field Trip to Ashbourne and Dovedale. I have been lucky enough to lead groups on two of these days. The pupils were a credit to the Academy and engaged in both elements of the day, studying the human and physical processes that are taking place. The weather was kind and ice creams and lollies were enjoyed by everyone who wanted one. Crossing the famous stepping stones took place with nearly everyone remaining dry.

Thank you to all the staff and parents who assisted in the running on these trips, particularly Mrs Dickinson and Mrs Skelding who arranged the days.

On Friday our fledgling girls’ rugby team visited Oldfields Hall Middle School in Uttoxeter to represent the school. Mr Salmon took this team of rapidly developing players and informs me that the skill and ferocity of their play was something to behold and that the girls revelled in the contact situations of the game. This is a great example of one of the many sporting opportunities provided for the pupils. Well done, girls: I am glad you are involved in such a great team sport.

Our whole school photo was taken on Monday and I must congratulate the pupils on their conduct during the process. Physically arranging over 800 people, getting them all to smile and look in the same direction at the same time is something that takes military style organisation. Many thanks to Mrs Collier for arranging this event and ensuring that everything ran so smoothly.

Finally, the funeral of Mrs Lilly Vernon will take place next week. Representatives from the Academy will be joining her family and friends at the service. Our thoughts and prayers are with her husband and family at this very sad time.

House Point totals for week ending 8th June 2018.

As always, I will finish with a quotation. This week I have chosen one from Amelia Earhart:

“Women, like men, should try to the impossible and when they fail, their failure should be a challenge to other.”

God Bless,

Mr Hutchinson
