Principals Blog

Dear All,

The theme for this week was ‘Mystery’ linked to the bible reading Luke 24: 13-35.

This passage in Luke is famous as Jesus presents himself to some of his followers on the road to Emmaus.

The passage shows us all that sometimes we must reflect on seeing what is right in front of us instead of walking away from the treasures that already lay before us.

This week pupils from St Edward’s have demonstrated the many gifts that they bring to the Academy, with pupils taking part in a range of sporting fixtures and events through to two of our year 8 girls winning a national NHS competition.  I really enjoyed watching our dance ensemble preparing for the Leek Arts Festival, their eye for detail, precision and dedication to practice is an example we could all take something from.

On Monday evening I held the first of my Parent Forums, this will be a termly event from now on and the notes from this meeting are available for all to read on the Academy website. Thank you to all of you who attended and demonstrated the depth of support St Edward’s parents provide for our pupils and your children. As I mentioned last week, I will be focussing on key areas of improvement that the Academy team are implementing, two of these are communication and consistency.

Key areas highlighted this last week:

Firstly, in circumstances where parents do not reside at the same address our systems will develop to ensure that all correspondence are provided to both parties to ensure pupils can be fully supported.

Secondly, I met with all my teaching and support staff and with their support we will be implementing a set of consistent practices to improve the entry, start and exit to each lesson throughout the school day to ensure that learning is paramount. This will be implemented from after half term.

These are just two of the many areas my team and I are reviewing currently and further information will be provided as we look to improve each in turn.

As I end each blog with a quote from an inspirational person, I thought that I would choose an inspirational fictional character. So here is a quote from the lead in one of my favourite films; Rocky Balboa:

“If you know what your worth, then go out and get what you’re worth”

God Bless,

Mr Hutchinson
